The mighty Danube behind two cyclists. Day 1 was supposed to be
about 45kms. We did around 30, crossed the border into Austria and found our hotel; then discovered we’d missed a few items of interest along the way in the extensive guide book they gave us, so had cut a few corners. Rob got M and me out on our bikes in the afternoon and we crossed the river to the other side and did another 20kms of “warm down” (as we elite sportspeople say) along the opposite bank, taking photos of our hotel from the Austrian side of the river. We returned on a little boat that does regular crossings of the fast-moving river carrying cyclists and walkers.
